Celebrating the Silver Anniversary of the Hispanic Theological Initiative
The Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI) recruits and supports Latina/o scholars in religion, providing both financial resources and a network of support, mentoring, and encouragement.
HTI was launched at Emory University in 1995 and was relocated to Princeton Theological Seminary in 1999.
Since 2002, the leadership at HTI has worked collaboratively with a variety of advisors, mentors, and editors to develop and maintain the unprecedented degree-completion rate of 97%, with an average time to degree of 5.5 years.
In 2010, ¡Excelencia in Education! awarded HTI the Examples of Excelencia Award at the graduate-level by, catapulting the HTI vision and model into the larger landscape of education in the United States.

Honoring HTI’s quarter century of excelencia
Contributor Spotlights
The HTI Book Prize highlights the work of Latinx scholars in the areas of theology and religion.
Past winners include some of the leading voices in Latinx scholarship in the United States. HTI Book Prize winners receive a financial prize and are invited to give an open lecture on the topic of the book during HTI’s annual Professional Development Conference at Princeton Theological Seminary, where the winner will also be presented with the prize. Additionally, the lecture will be followed by a book-signing reception sponsored by HTI.
